A little about the company. Why teardrops?

We are a 'new' Teardrop Camper manufacturer located in the sunny central north island, Taupo! The plans to start commercialising the ideas running around our heads got fast tracked due to Covid. Designing and building teardrops has been the dream since building our first Teardrop in 2015, but there was never a great time due to work and family commitments. With Covid removing the work commitment, we decided to use lockdown as an opportunity to start designing and building what we believe to be one of the greatest Teardrop Campers around!

Hundreds of nights have been spent in the original camper, and during this time many things were improved on, or added to. Five years of tweaking the original camper, and taking down notes on what to do differently culminated into the design that got started during lockdown 2020. 2000+ hours went into designing every aspect of the camper on the computer first, before the designs got sent away to be CNC cut and assembled by us here in Taupo.

The first one of the new design has been put through its paces by ourselves and our friends and family, and with a couple small tweaks, the design got updated and was ready for production!

A little about the people. Who are 'we'?

This whole thing was the dream of Ned. He is the man responsible for the designs and builds. Ned learned about teardrops in 2014, and built his first one over the 2014/2015 summer. Ned really sees himself as a 'maker', and loves to tinker with just about anything! From when he was barely old enough to reach his dads tools, he's been tinkering with anything he could get his hands on. Woodworking and electronics early on, and metalworking and automotive once he got his license and discovered cars. At university he learned about computing, programming, electronics and CAD modeling and has spent over a decade designing and manufacturing electronics.

In 2018, Ned met Lexy, and her son Zac. They both kindly support every silly idea Ned has, and allow him to work long hours and focus on designing and building our campers! Lexy has a background in organisation and management, and is always happy share her knowledge, and even happy to lend a hand when something in the workshop requires an extra set of hands!

Zac is mostly interested in gaming, but luckily embraces device free time when we go out camping! He likes races around with other kids on bikes doing 'sick jumps' and loves to potter around at the water's edge. Being an only child for 10 years, Zac had been asking for a little baby brother or sister for a while, and in December of 2020 his wish was granted when his baby sister Luna was born! Luna is a very happy baby, with lots of (mischievous) smiles, and keeps us on our toes! Zac couldn't be a better big brother, and is counting down the days until Luna can hold a game controller!
