Hi everyone, thanks for coming to have a look at our site. I'm going to leave this page up, as we're not done, but we are taking a break from teardrops. We started this during Covid due to job losses and always wanting to give this a go, but have had some other opportunities come our way, and have sold all our stock.
We will be doing some more work in the background designing more Teardrops, and we will ba back in the future! But for now, there will be no new teardrops being built by us for a little while. We will leave the page up, and on instagram and facebook we may post the odd update about designs or even other campers as well.
Welcome to Sun and Moon Campers. We are a teardrop camper manufacturer here in Taupo, NZ. Teardrop campers (sometimes referred to as teardrop trailer, or tiny travel trailer) can be traced back to post war USA, where small campers were built out of army surplus materials. Old truck axles with wooden framed bodies, and aircraft aluminium sheet skins were the building blocks people used to build weekend getaway trailers. They were made to be lightweight, easy to manoeuvre, and they were commonly found in 8 to 10 foot lengths, and 4 or 5 foot widths.
Modern teardrop campers have evolved a lot since then, but here at Sun and Moon Campers, we try and keep some of the original spirit alive! The campers are built on custom steel trailers, with CNC cut marine grade plywood bodies, and aluminium composite panel skins. The cabinets are made of lightweight plywood carcasses and birch plywood doors and drawer front, all with a durable high pressure laminate finish. The shape is based heavily on the more classic teardrop camper shapes, as they both look phenomenal, and are easy to tow. Our campers are long and wide, meaning even the taller amongst us will be able to stretch out and sleep comfortably!
Whether you are wanting to upgrade from tenting, or downsize from an RV or van, a teardrop is a great option! They are easy to tow with most normal size cars, and store away in a standard garage with ease. They are extremely easy to reverse due to the placement of the back wheels, and they are light enough that you can always unhitch it and turn it around if you find yourself in a bit of a pickle!
Say goodbye to having to pitch a tent in the rain, or having to put it back up at home to dry it out. Be the envy of every tenter at your local campsite, and try not to look too smug when you can simply unhook the car for a quick day trip without having to pack up your entire campervan!
And if you think their usefulness ends there, wait until you find out that you now have a spare room hidden away in your garage for when you have friends or family staying over. Visiting friends and family out of town with your own bed on wheels behind you means you will no longer have to sleep on a pull out couch either!
